Apostle Wooten was inspired to use the name Gideon from the book of Judges in the Old Testament.
“The angel of the Lord appeared unto [Gideon] and said unto him, ‘The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valor” (Judges 6:12).
The meaning of Gideon’s name is significant, describing one who bruises or breaks; a destroyer; he that cuts down; a warrior. Gideon was appointed by God to lead an army of 300 Israelites to defeat their enemy, the Midianites. The story of this miraculous event is summed up in Judges 7:20-21:“And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried.” “The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.” And they stood every man in his place round about the camp: and all the host [of the enemy] ran, and cried, and fled.”
The church, like Gideon of the Bible, has been called to overturn the altars of evil and utterly destroy the enemies of God in our city, nation, and world.
